The Hair Cut That Changed Everything
I can't stop staring at him.
A new haircut and suddenly, he's not the little boy with the raspy voice who hides under tables when his dad brings his guitar to pre-school.
A new haircut and he's off to England, with people who are not his parents.
"I want to see the Imperial War Museum", he says.
He doesn't say, "I am afraid to be away from you for two whole weeks."
A new haircut and I am taken aback by the way he speaks to his uncle on the phone, when he calls to thank him for the Euros.
Gone are the long, awkward pauses, the grunts and one word answers. Instead it's, "I think we've been playing phone tag" and "I really appreciate that. It will be put to good use."
A new haircut and the last 11 years flash before my eyes, never to return.
